Eastern League Names Pitcher and Player of the Week Awards for June 6-June 12

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of June 6th through June 12th:

Harrisburg Senators second baseman Steve Lombardozzi has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 6th-June 12th. The 6'0", 170 lb. switch hitter batted .538 (14-for-26) with one double, one home run, eight runs scored, one RBI, three walks, two stolen bases and a .692 slugging percentage in seven games for the Senators last week. The 22-year old had multiple hits in five of the seven games he played in last week and he currently has a nine-game hitting streak during which he is hitting .500 with nine runs scored. Lombardozzi, who is a native of Fulton, Maryland, led all Eastern League players in hits (14), batting average (.538), runs scored (8) and OPS (1.292) last week. He also finished ranked among the weekly leaders in on-base percentage (.600-tied 1st), total bases (18-2nd), slugging percentage (.692-6th) and stolen bases (2-tied 6th). For the season Lombardozzi is tied for first in the league in triples (6), tied for second in hits (75) and ranked seventh in batting average (.316). Steve, who entered the 2011 season rated by Baseball America as the 13th best prospect in the Washington organization, was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 19th round of the 2008 draft out of St. Petersburg Junior College.

Stephen Fife, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Portland Sea Dogs, is the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 6th-June 12th. The 24-year old made one appearance for the Sea Dogs last week and had a record of 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 6.1 innings pitched. Fife, who is a native of Boise, Idaho, made his only start of the week on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field against the Richmond Flying Squirrels and allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out seven batters over 6.1 shutout innings while leading Portland to a 6-0 victory. He did not allow a hit through the first six innings of the game and retired the first batter he faced in the top of the seventh before giving up a single to Justin Christian. With his performance the 6'3", 210 lb. hurler improved his record to 6-3 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.94. He is currently tied for second in the league in wins and has allowed three runs or less eight of his 10 appearances for the Sea Dogs this season. Stephen, who had a record of 8-6 with a 4.75 ERA in 26 starts for the Sea Dogs last season, was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the third round of the 2008 draft after going 7-5 with 78 strikeouts and a 3.72 ERA in 15 starts during his junior season at the University of Utah.
