Gateway Grizzlies News Release
SAUGET, IL - The Gateway Grizzlies homered four times, including back to back to back home runs in the fourth inning from Charlie Lisk, Joe Agreste and Landon Hernandez, en route to a 7-2 convincing win over the Traverse City Beach Bums at GCS Ballpark in front of 3,125 on Tuesday night. Hernandez paced the Grizzlies powerful attack with a 3-for-4 night, including two homers and four RBIs.
The Beach Bums grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo homer from Jason Codiroli. It was the second homer of the season for Codiroli and the second homer given up by Grizzlies starter Mark Brackman in 2011.
The Grizzlies offense broke out in the fourth inning in a big way. Logan Parker led off the inning with a double. Lisk, Agreste and Hernandez followed with three consecutive home runs to give the Grizzlies a 4-1 lead.
Traverse City made it 4-2 in the fifth inning as they pushed a run across on a James Guerrero RBI single.
The Grizzlies answered with a single tally in the fifth on a Hernandez RBI single that scored Lisk, who walked earlier in the inning.
Gateway would tack on two more insurance runs in the eighth with Hernandez homering for the second time.
Brackman (2-0) was outstanding once again for the Grizzlies. The 26-year-old from Kansas City, MO gave up just two runs in seven innings, striking out eight and walking only one. Nick Walters and Jake Shafer close the door for the Grizzlies in the eighth and ninth inning. Both relievers struck out the side.
The Grizzlies and Beach Bums resume their three game series on Tuesday with a 7:05 first pitch from GCS Ballpark. B.J. Dail will get the start for the Grizzlies, his second of the season.
