River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, Mo. - A night that started with the awarding of championship rings to former Rascals center fielder Caleb Curry and the night's starting pitcher Tony Marsala finished with both reminding River City what they miss from last year's team as the RiverHawks take an 11-5 win in game one of a three game series.

Curry finished 0-for-2 but drew three walks and scored the games first run on a sacrifice fly after stealing two bases. Marsala (1-0) garnered his first win in 2011 behind a six-inning, seven strikeout performance while allowing just one run on a Stephen Holdren homerun to start the fourth.

River City starter Ryne Miller (0-2) allowed seven runs (six earned) on five hits in four innings while allowing three homeruns, the final to Jake Eigsti that made the score 7-1 and sent Miller to the showers.

Rockford (6-4) stretched their lead to 11-1 with a four-run seventh.

The Rascals (5-5) stranded 12 runners on the bases and could not get the offense going until their half of the seventh when they strung together six singles to plate four runs.

Game two of the three-game series is set for tomorrow at 7:05 with Rascals' ace Gary Moran (1-0) taking the mound against Guido Fonseca (1-1).
