O'FALLON, Mo. - Tony Marsala stymied the team he pitched to last year's Frontier League pennant and three of his new Rockford teammates hit home runs in the RiverHawks' 11-5 win Tuesday at River City.
Marsala (1-0) struck out seven and scattered a run on four hits over six innings in his first start as a RiverHawk. Marsala was the Game 1 starter for the Rascals in last year's league championship series.
Jake Eigsti, Cam Satterwhite and Luis Parache each homered for the RiverHawks. Eigsti, 17-for-32 (.531) to begin the year, extended his season-long hitting streak to 10 games.
The RiverHawks led from the first inning on. Former Rascal Caleb Curry led off the game with a four-pitch walk, stole second base and third and scored on Eigsti's sacrifice fly.
In the second inning, Satterwhite hit a two-run shot to the wall behind the left-field stands and Parache hit a dead pull over the Big Doll Wall in right. Eigsti knocked out River City starter Ryne Miller (0-2) with a two-run homer in the fifth inning.
The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday and will be aired live on ESPN 1380 and ESPN1380.com.
The RiverHawks' next home game is 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, June 7 against the River City Rascals. Petco sponsors the Bark in the Park. Fans are invited to bring their dogs to the stadium on Tuesday night home games. Thompsons' Transmission sponsors Kids Eat Free Tuesdays.
The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 19th season. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Fans can also visit www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
