Portland Defeats Everett, 4-3

Portland, OR - The Portland Winterhawks scored two third period goals to collect a 4-3 victory over the Silvertips Friday night at the Rose Garden. Ryan Murray was named second star of the night with one goal and one assist. Murray currently has a five game point streak (1G, 6A) and has 33 points (4G, 29A) his last 35 games. Brennan Yadlowski and Josh Birkholz also scored for Everett. The Silvertips went 2/5 on the power play Friday night while Luke Siemens made 34 saves in net for the Silvertips.

Everett struck first Friday night with Yadlowski's sixth goal of the season. Scoring on the power play at 1:56 of the first period, Yadlowski fired a hard slap shot that went off the post and past Portland goalie Mac Carruth for a 1-0 'Tips lead. Murray made the score 2-0 at 6:40 for his sixth of the season. Evan Morden made a long feed to Murray coming out of the box before the Everett defenseman went in on a breakaway. Murray went glove side to beat Carruth on the breakaway. Riley Boychuck scored just 12 seconds later to cut Everett's lead to 2-1. Nino Niederreiter scored his 39th of the year at 12:20 to tie the game at 2-2. Birkholz scored his 18th of the year after deflecting a Chad Suer shot from the right point to give Everett a 3-2 lead after the second period.

Sven Bartschi scored his 33rd of the season at 1:42 of the third period to tie the score at 3-3. First star of the night, Niederreiter scored the game winning goal on the power play at 16:52. Ryan Johansen won a faceoff draw to Niederreiter who beat Siemens five-hole concluding a 4-3 Portland win.

This brings the 'Tips record to 28-31-7-4 with 67 points in 70 games played. Everett concludes the 2010-2011 regular season this weekend starting with a game Saturday night at Chilliwack against the Bruins at 7:00 pm, then the final game of the regular season this Sunday evening at 5:00 pm against the Vancouver Giants.
