Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings traded 19-year-old right-winger Michael Burns to the Vancouver Giants on Wednesday afternoon in exchange for 16-year-old centre Landon Robin.

Burns, a 6-foot-1, 192-pound winger from Edmonton, played six games as an affiliate with the Oil Kings during their inaugural season in 2007-08 before spending the last two full WHL seasons playing for his hometown junior team.

In 120 career WHL regular season games with the Oil Kings, Burns scored 10 goals and 16 assists with 110 penalty minutes. He played in Edmonton's four playoff games against Calgary in 2008-09 but didn't score any points. His younger brother Nathan also plays for Vancouver.

Robin is a 5-foot-11, 161-pound centre from Saskatoon who plays for Beardy's Blackhawks in the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League. He was selected by the Giants in the seventh round (142nd overall) at the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft.

In 44 regular season games as a rookie with the Blackhawks last season, Robin scored six goals and five assists with 23 penalty minutes, playing on the same squad as 2010 Bantam Draft first-overall selection Alex Forsberg. Robin also scored three points in six playoff games for Beardy's last year.

Robin will play with the Blackhawks again this season, reducing the Oil Kings' roster from 26 to 25 players. Edmonton opens the 2010-11 WHL regular season on Friday against the Red Deer Rebels at 7 p.m. at Rexall Place.

Individual game tickets for all Oil Kings home games are on sale now and start at just $15 in the ATB Financial Zone. Season seats start at less than $9 with the addition of some new Mini-Packs and Flex Plans this season as well. Tickets are available at any Ticketmaster outlet, online at oilkings.ca, or by calling 780-414-GOAL (4625).
