Binkley Scores in OT, Storm Win 3-2

KEARNEY, Neb. - Defenseman Jason Binkley's third shot on goal was a charm, as the Tri-City Storm prevailed to beat the Lincoln Stars in overtime 3-2. It was the final home exhibition game for the Storm before they finish the preseason at the Fall Classic in Sioux City, Iowa next week.

The Storm (1-1-0) got the opening goal from left winger Cody Murphy at the 7:12 mark in the opening period, as Matthew Friese and Zack Rall picked up the assists.

Lincoln (0-0-1) evened the score 13:04 into the first period, as defenseman Richard Coyne scored from Jared Hanson and Josh Berge.

Murphy scored his second goal of the game to give the Storm the lead again with 2:06 remaining in the second period. Friese picked up the lone assist on the goal.

The Stars scored the tying goal just one-minute into the third period on Dominick Shine's shot that redirected off of Storm forward Brian Ward's stick and into the Tri-City net.

In overtime, Binkley fired a slap-shot from the right-point past Stars goalie Kevin Murdock for the game-winning goal. Dominic Panetta and DJ Vandercook earned the assists on the Storm's third goal.

The Storm on the power play was 0-for-8, while Lincoln was 0-for-5 with the man-advantage.

Tri-City goalie Alex Cantrell made 11 saves on 13 shots in the win, while Lincoln goalies Luke Hafner made 19 saves on 20 shots and Kevin Murdock made 18 saves on 20 shots receiving the loss.

The Storm will travel to Sioux City for three games in as many days beginning on Wednesday night against the Musketeers to open the Fall Classic. Tri-City will open the regular season on October 1st at the Viaero Event Center against Lincoln.
