
'Tips Defeat T-Birds in Last Preseason Game of Tournament

The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-3 Sunday night in the final game of the Everett Preseason Tournament.
The T-Birds took a 1-0 lead at 5:41 of the second period on a goal by Luke Lockhart. Defenseman Brenden Dillon streaked down the right side of the ice into the Everett zone. At the right circle Dillon cut towards goal and then centered the puck to Lockhart. Lockhart got a shot off that Everett goalie Kent Simpson stopped. The puck rebounded up into the air off Simpson and Lockhart swung his stick at the puck and knocked it into the net.
Everett tied the game 1-1 at 11:00 of the second on a goal from Jari Ericson. Rasmus Risanen and Landon Ferraro had the assists.
Seattle went in front 2-1 at 12:36 of the second on a goal from Charles Wells. Scott Ramsay took a shot from the boards along the left side. Wells was standing in front of Simpson and redirected the shot over the goalie's glove.
The T-Birds took a 3-1 lead at 18:49 of the second when Mitch Elliot scored. Colin Jacobs sent the puck from the left corner to Dillon at the right point. Dillon skated to the high slot and put a wrist shot on goal. Elliot tipped Dillon's shot past Simpson.
Everett led in shots, 18-16, after two periods.
The Silvertips got their second goal of the night when Scott McDonald scored a power-play goal at 1:27 of the third period. Nicholas Walters and Alex Theriau had the assists.
Everett tied the game at 2:20 of the third on an unassisted goal by Kellan Tochkin.
The Tips took a 4-3 lead at 4:28 of the third on a power-play goal by Tyler Maxwell. Tochkin and Risanen had the assists.
Everett outshot Seattle 28-25.
Seattle started Calvin Pickard in goal and he played 30 minutes. He stopped all 12 shots he faced. Matt Krahn replaced Pickard halfway through the second period. Krahn made 12 saves on 16 shots.
Simpson played all 60 minutes and made 22 saves on 25 shots.
The T-Birds have five games remaining in the preseason. They will travel to Kennewick for three games at the Red Lion Hotels' Preseason Tournament at the Toyota Center. On Thursday, September 9, the T-Birds will face the Silvertips at 3 p.m., the Kootenay Ice at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 10 and the Lethbridge Hurricanes at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 11.
The T-Birds head back up to Everett to take on the Silvertips on Friday, September 17, at 7:35 at Comcast Arena.
The exhibition schedule ends on Saturday, September 18, when the T-Birds host the Portland Winterhawks at 7:05 p.m. at ShoWare Center.
The T-Birds will open the regular season against the Everett Silvertips on Friday, September 24 at Comcast Arena in Everett at 7:35pm. The T-Birds will hold their home opener on Saturday, September 25 at 7:05p.m. against long time rival, the Portland Winterhawks. The T-Birds will wrap up their opening weekend in Kennewick against the Tri-City Americans on Sunday, September 26, at 5p.m. at the Toyota Center.
