
Hand Wins Double-A Debut as Suns Defeat Smokies, 6-2

Jacksonville, Fla. - Brad Hand allowed two runs and three hits over six innings in his first Double-A game while a Jeff Corsaletti pinch-hit single in the sixth inning drove in the go-ahead runs leading the Jacksonville Suns (78-58, 38-28) to a 6-2 win over the Tennessee Smokies (83-52, 41-25) in front of 1,883 Thursday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Hand (1-0), called up from Class A-Advanced Jupiter on Thursday, allowed three walks with four strikeouts and dealt 80 pitches with 53 strikes in the winning decision. Smokies starter Rafael Dolis (5-4) allowed four runs and eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts over five and two-thirds innings.
Tennessee opened the scoring with a first inning run against Hand. Tony Campana led off with a single, stole second base and scored on a Blake Lalli two-out single for a 1-0 score.
The Suns got on the board in the second inning. Matt Dominguez led off with a single and later scored on a one-out single from Ryan Curry for a 1-1 score. Jacksonville took the lead in the third inning when Ozzie Martinez doubled and later scored on a Dominguez single for a 2-1 lead.
The Smokies tied the game 2-2 in the fourth inning. Brandon Guyer walked, stole second and third base before scoring on a two-out infield hit by Tony Thomas.
Jacksonville took the lead for good in the sixth inning. Ryan Curry singled with two out, and moved to third base on two separate wild pitches. Kevin Mattison later walked and stole second base. Reliever Kyle Smit entered and allowed a pinch-hit single from Jeff Corsaletti, scoring Curry and Mattison for a 4-2 lead.
The Suns added two runs in the seventh inning against reliever Marco Carrillo. Vinny Rottino walked and Dominguez singled before both scored on a John Otness hit for a 6-2 score.
Suns RH Brad Stone will face Montgomery Biscuits RH Jeremy Hall Friday at 7:05 at the Baseball Grounds. Friday is Family Faith Night featuring a post-game concert by Big Daddy Weave.
