Altoona Curve News Release

BINGHHAMTON, NY - For the second time in a week, Curve right fielder Miles Durham provided the game-winning hit for the Altoona Curve in extra innings. Durham's RBI single through the right side of the infield in the top of the 12th inning proved to be the difference in the Curve's 6-5 victory on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium.

Josh Harrison, whose third hit of the night led off the frame and started the rally would be bunted to second by Jordy Mercer. Matt Hague weakly rolled out to short to advance Harrison to third. Binghamton elected to intentionally walk Hector Gimenez to get to Durham, who then singled to break the 5-5 tie.

The scoring in the game started with Altoona (72-52) securing a 4-0 edge in the top of the third. RBI singles by Harrison and Hague put Altoona up 2-0 before Gimenez capped the inning with a two-run double.

The B-Mets (60-63) would plate three runs in the bottom of the third to answer Altoona and cut their deficit to one run, but the Curve would maintain one-run edge until the seventh inning.

Off of reliever Jared Hughes, it was Jordany Valdespin's RBI single that would knot the score at 4-4.

Altoona would immediately counter using a pair of throwing errors to take a 5-4 edge in the eighth. Mercer, who walked with one out would steal second base. The throw from B-Mets catcher Luke Montz sailed wide of the target in to centerfield. As Mercer advanced towards third, the attempt to gun him down by centerfielder Jon Malo was also in vain as he airmailed his attempt into the third base dugout which awarded home.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Curve reliever Anthony Clagget uncorked a wild pitch that allowed the tying run to score and deadlock the game at 5-5 before Durham's 12th inning heroics.

The Altoona Curve and B-Mets will lock horns in the second game of the three-game series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Altoona sends southpaw Rudy Owens (9-6, 2.64) to the mound while the Binghamton will counter with RHP Chris Schwinden (4-7, 5.56) airtime on flagship radio station ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and Altoona Curve Radio Network affiliates is 6:35 p.m.
