Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Aberdeen, MD - Aberdeen IronBirds' outfielders Trent Mummey and Kipp Schutz, third baseman Adam Gaylord and starting pitcher Tim Adleman have been named to the 2010 American League New York-Penn League All-Star team. It's the first time since 2007 that four IronBirds have been named NYPL All-Stars.
Mummey was selected by the O's in the fourth round of the 2010 draft. The outfielder is coming off a stellar season at Auburn University, in which he hit .366 with 17 homers and 54 RBI in just 36 games (injured ankle before the season). Since signing and joining the IronBirds, Mummey has been the club's leadoff hitter and everyday centerfielder. He's currently tied for the league-lead in doubles (15) and is batting .301 with three homers and 23 runs batted in. The highlight of Mummey's 2010 professional season came on July 11th when he hit a walk-off grand slam home run against the Auburn Doubledays.
Schutz, a former 19th round pick by the O's in the 2009 draft, has been among the league leaders in hitting all season long. Schutz currently ranks fifth in the league in hitting, with a .331 batting average, to go along with three homers and 30 RBI. Just like Mummey, Schutz also hit a walk-off grand slam this season. Schutz's game-winning shot was on July 20th against the Tri-City ValleyCats.
The Orioles selected Gaylord in the 31st round of the 2010 draft out of Stanford University. Gaylord didn't see much playing time his senior season with the Cardinals, but has been the everyday third baseman for the IronBirds. He's currently batting .300 with two long balls and 18 RBIs. He is the only player in the New York-Penn League to have a five-hit game this season. Gaylord collected five hits on July 13th against Auburn.
Baltimore drafted Adleman out of Georgetown University in the 24th round in 2010. The right-hander is 2-2 with a 2.74 ERA. He's currently ranked fourth in the league in strikeouts with 44 K's in 42.2 innings of work. On August 2nd, Adleman pitched six perfect innings and seven no-hit frames against the Staten Island Yankees.
The New York-Penn League All-Star game will take place on Tuesday August 17th at Richmond County Ballpark in Staten Island, NY. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
The Aberdeen IronBirds have sold out their season tickets for the ninth straight season. Group packages and standing room only tickets, however, are still available for the 2010 season. For ticket information, contact our box office at (410) 297-9292 or visit us online at www.IronBirdsbaseball.com.
