Moore's 3-RBI Game Leads Lake Monsters to 8-1 Win

BURLINGTON, VT --- Wade Moore went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while three Lake Monster pitchers combined to allow just one run as Vermont beat the Batavia Muckdogs 6-1 in New York-Penn League action Sunday afternoon at historic Centennial Field.

The Lake Monsters jumped out quickly in the first inning as Chad Mozzingo led off with a walk and Blake Kelso followed with a bunt single to third. After a groundout moved the runners up a base and a strikeout, Moore singled to center for a two-out, two-run single and a 2-0 Vermont lead.

Vermont then added four runs in the third for a 6-0 advantage. Mozingo led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Kelso RBI single to centerfield. Kelso scored later in the inning on a Moore RBI single through the right side and Russell Moldenhauer scored on a wild pitch. The Lake Monsters got their final run on a Ronnie LaBrie line-drive RBI single to rightfield scoring Moore.

Starter Taylor Jordan tossed four scoreless innings before Batavia got its only run of the game in the fifth off Jordan. Yunier Castillo was hit by a pitch with one out and then scored as the Muckdogs got back-to-back singles from Nicholas Longmire and Chris Edmondson.

Jordan (2-2), who had given up 17 runs over 10 2/3 innings in his last three starts, allowed just one run on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts on Sunday to earn his second victory of the season and first since June 28th. After Dustin Crane tossed a scoreless sixth inning, Ryan Demmin allowed one hit with one walk and two strikeouts over the final three innings for his second save of the year.

Muckdogs starter Nick McCully allowed all six Vermont runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in three innings for the loss, while reliever Travis Lawler two hits and five strikeouts over four scoreless innings. Longmire went 3-for-5 and Edmondson 2-for-5 with an RBI for Batavia (28-21), which has lost four of its last five.

Mozingo and Kelso both had two hits and two runs scored for the Lake Monsters, who remain in first-place in the Stedler Division. With his two hits, Kelso now has an eight-game hitting streak for the second time this season and has hit safely in 21 of his last 23 games started overall.

Vermont (27-22) will host Batavia on Monday night beginning at 7:05 pm in the Lake Monsters last home game until August 18th. Monday is "Kids CAN Help And You CAN Too" night as any fan bringing a non-perishable food item to Centennial Field with receive a free General Admission ticket to the game as the Lake Monsters help to strikeout hunger.
