Evansville Otters News Release
(MARION, Ill.)- Toby Davis (pictured) hit an inside the park home run and an RBI triple in his debut in an Evansville Otters 6-2 win over the Southern Illinois Miners.
Davis was acquried in a trade last night from the Gateway Grizzlies and helped Evansville take a 3-1 lead in the season series against the Southern Illinois Miners.
The Otters scored in five of the first seven innings including early RBI singles from Derek Wiley and Andre Alvarado.
Davis then came up to leadoff the 4th inning when the switch-hitter looped a ball down the left field line. The ball was dropped by a sliding Kent Gerst as the ball just landed fair. The newest Otter hustled around the bases and scored without a throw for the 3-0 advnatage. He would also add an RBI triple later in the game as well.
Chad Edwards earned his first professional win as the righty pitched 5 1/3 hitless innings including pitching out of a bases loaded nobody out jam.
Evansville won the game 6-2 as Derek Wiley had a trio of hits and a pair of runs batted in.
Edwards improves to 1-4 with the win as Brett Scarpetta, the Miners starter, drops to 5-3 after allowing five runs.
Evansville is now 23-39 this season as the Southern Illinois Miners are currently 46-18.
The teams will meet again tomorrow night in the middle game of the series at Rent One Park. First pitch is set for 5:05 PM CDT.
