Normal CornBelters News Release
NORMAL, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by the Illinois Corn Farmers, rocked the River City Rascals pitching en route to a 10-3 win Saturday night at the Corn Crib in Normal. The win proves to be big in the opener of a crucial six game home stand.
The CornBelters pounded out 16 hits with each starter picking up at least one hit and being led by Mike Dufek and Daniel Cox's three hit nights. Dufek went 3-5 with a double and two RBI while Cox was 3-5 with an RBI of his own. Centerfielder Ross McCoy also had a productive night going 2-3 with two RBI. The CornBelters scored in five of their times up to the plate including a four run inning in the bottom of the fifth.
Normal starter Brett Lester pitched effectively to pick up his fifth win on the season, and his first against River City. Lester lasted 8 innings allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out five hitters on the way. Left hander Donald Furrow pitched the ninth inning to finish off the Rascals.
River City is in town again Sunday evening to go up against the CornBelters for the second game of the series. First pitch is set for 5:05pm with pregame starting at 4:45pm on 95.9 WEZC and WJBC.com
