
Grizzlies Win Big in Opener at Florence

FLORENCE, Ky.- The Gateway Grizzlies scored 10 runs on 14 hits Saturday night to defeat the Florence Freedom 10-3 in game one of a three-game series at Champion Window Field.
The Grizzlies (33-30) scored twice in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead and never looked back. Gateway scored three times in the sixth and five more times in the eighth to go up 10-0 on the Freedom.
Grizzlies starter B.J. Dail (6-5) sailed through eight innings, but couldn't nail down his first complete game. Two walks, a hit and an error led to three Florence runs. Dail went 8.1 innings, allowing the three runs, two earned, on just five hits. He struck out seven. Eric Blackwell finished the game for the Grizzlies.
Logan Parker led the way offensively. Parker finished 4 for 5, with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs. Gordie Gronkowski was 2 for 6 with a pair of RBIs. Brandon Peters was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run. Donnie Ecker was 1 for 5 with two RBIs. Landon Hernandez was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
The Grizzlies and Freedom (28-36) play the second game of the set Sunday evening in Florence. First pitch is set for 5:05 pm CT.
