Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
The Kannapolis Intimidators hit three home runs in a single ballgame for the second time this season and for the second straight start, Justin Collop pitched extremely well in a 5-2 victory against the Greenville Drive at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Monday night.
After throwing eight innings and allowing one run in his last start, Collop (5-6) earned his fifth win of the season as he went seven innings, allowing six hits and only a two-run home run in the sixth.
The Intimidators (4-8) got on the board first in the second inning as Brady Shoemaker hit his ninth home run of the season to lead off the inning against Manuel Rivera to make it a 1-0 game. Later in the inning, Jake Oester hit his first professional home run, a line drive over the wall in left to give the Intimidators a 2-0 lead against the Drive (9-3).
In the next inning, the third, Kyle Colligan reached on a fly ball that, with miscommunication and a collision, landed in the infield, and with two out, Shoemaker brought him home with a single to make it a 3-0 lead. Rivera (2-7) stayed in the game until two outs in the fourth. The last batter he faced was Ian Gac with a runner on and Gac hit his league-leading 15th home run of the season, a two-run shot that gave the Intimidators a 5-0 lead. For the second time in as many starts this season, Rivera took the loss against the Intimidators and allowed nine hits.
For the Drive, Pedro Perez worked the final 3.1 innings and he did not allow a baserunner as he recorded six strikeouts and for the Intimidators, Taylor Thompson allowed only a leadoff walk in the eighth for a two-inning save, his first of the season.
The win evens the four game series at one win apiece going into the third game tomorrow at 7:05pm. For the Intimidators, Joe Serafin looks for a team-leading eighth win and he will be opposed by Pete Ruiz, in search of his fifth.
