State College Spikes - Pittsburgh Pirates (8-7) @ Williamsport Crosscutters - Philadelphia Phillies (7-8)
Game #16 / Road Game #8 RHP Zack Von Rosenberg (0-3, 7.50) vs. RHP Julio Rodriguez (1-1, 2.93)
-SPIKES LOCK HORNS WITH 'CUTTERS: Phase two of the 2010 SawBuck Series finishes up tonight with the final game of a three-game set between the State College Spikes and the Williamsport Crosscutters at Historic Bowman Field. The Spikes have come back from being swept in the first three games of the season by the Crosscutters to take the last two games against them in this series. Williamsport has a narrow 27-26 lead in the all-time series.
-LAST GAME: Gift Ngoepe and Gerlis Rodriguez each provided clutch home runs, and the Spikes came from behind to defeat the Crosscutters, 5-4, on Friday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park thanks to an error in the bottom of the ninth. Kyle Saukko scored the game-winning run for State College after lining a two-out single to left field. After Ngoepe was walked on an intentional ball four, Walker Gourley chopped a grounder which Williamsport first baseman Jeff Cusick erred upon, scoring Saukko to end the game. Justin Ennis picked up the win with a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two, while starter Tyler Waldron went five innings in a no-decision, matching the longest outing by a State College starter this year.
-VON ROSENBERG FACES FAMILIAR FOE: Right-hander Zack Von Rosenberg gets his second shot at Williamsport tonight as he makes the start for the Spikes. Von Rosenberg faced the Crosscutters on Opening Night at Historic Bowman Field, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out two. The Pirates' sixth-round draft pick in 2009, Von Rosenberg has gone exactly four innings in each of his first three outings, taking the loss each time. A win tonight would be the Louisianan's first as a professional.
-WILLIAMSPORT TAPS RODRIGUEZ FOR REDUX: Von Rosenberg's Opening Night opponent, right-hander Julio Rodriguez, will again toe the slab for the Crosscutters tonight. Rodriguez earned the victory in his first duel with the Spikes, going 5.1 innings and allowing three runs on five hits. The native of Toa Alta, Puerto Rico also walked four batters and struck out five. On the season, Rodriguez has allowed opposing batters a .214 average, though he has also walked ten batters in in 15.1 total innings.
