Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
It was Fireworks Night at Dutchess Stadium, but the fans didn't have to wait until after the game for an offensive explosion. The Aberdeen IronBirds and the Hudson Valley Renegades combined for 22 runs and 25 hits in front of a sellout crowd of 4,924. Aberdeen emerged with the victory, 13-9.
The IronBirds opened the scoring quickly, scoring a pair of runs on Omar Casamayor's triple, and an RBI groundout in the bottom of the first. The Renegades wasted no time in evening the score, as Nick Schwaner hit a sacrifice fly, bringing in Derek Dietrich, and Burt Reynolds doubled in Diogenes Luis. At the end of one inning, the score stood at 2-2.
Aberdeen scored three runs in both the third and fourth, but Hudson Valley countered soon after. In the fourth, Schwaner drove in Steven Tinoco. Schwaner's RBI single was a prelude to a season-best six run fourth inning. In the fourth, Diogenes Luis drove in Kyle Holloway with a bunt single, Phil Wunderlich doubled in two runs, and Schwaner gave the Renegades a 9-8 lead with a 3-run homer over the right field wall.
Despite their prolific night at the plate (season-high in runs), the Renegades were unable to hold on and win. The IronBirds scored twice in the fifth for 10-9 lead, and three more times in the ninth for the final margin.
Nick Schwaner drove in five runs in the game, setting a Renegades season high, and stole his team-best fourth base of the season. Four Renegades collected two hits, and Robert Dickmann tossed a career-high 3.1 scoreless innings in the loss.
Tomorrow, the Renegades begin a three game series on the road against the State College Spikes. Hudson Valley will send Nate Garcia to the mound for his first career start. First pitch will be thrown at 1pm.
