LOWELL, MA --- Stephen King went 3-for-5 with four RBI, including a three-run double in a six-run seventh inning, as the Vermont Lake Monsters won their seventh straight game with an 8-1 victory over the Lowel l Spinners on Saturday evening at LeLecheur Park in New York-Penn League action.

The win improved Vermont to 13-3 overall, the first time that the Lake Monsters have been 10 games over .500 for the first time since August 8, 2007. The 13-3 stretch is also the best 16-game stretch for Vermont at any pointg in a season since the 2000 Vermont Expos won 13 of 16 games near the end of the season and the second-best all-time behind a 14-2 run by the 1995 Vermont Expos.

The Lake Monsters got on the scoreboard in the second inning as Russell Moldenhauer led off with a home run to right field. It was the fourth home run for Moldenhauer in his last three games, including two homers at Centennial on Wednesday and one in the series opener at Lowell on Thursday (Moldenhauer did not play Friday). Vermont added another run in the fifth on a King RBI single to score Blake Kelso.

Vermont starter Shane McCatty (1-1) allowed just one hit, a two-out single in the third inning, over five scoreless innings with three walks and three strikeouts for the win. Lake Monster starters have allowed just three runs on 16 hits in 34 innings during the seven-game winning streak. Wilson Eusebio gave up one run on two hits over three innings of relief, while Shane Zellers tossed a scoreless ninth. With just three Lowell hits on Saturday, Vermont pitchers have also not allowed more than six hits during the win streak.

Still close at 2-0 after six innings, the Lake Monsters put the game away with six runs in the seventh. A hit batter, single and walked loaded the bases to open the inning before King cleared the bases with a double to leftfield. Then after two walks and an RBI groundout, Ronnie LaBrie laced a two-run double to rightcenter to score Moldenhauer and Cole Leonida for an 8-0 Vermont lead.

Kelso was 2-for-4 with two runs scored to raise his season average to .381, including .421 (16-for-38) over his last nine games. Felix Sanchez was 2-for-4 with a double and scored the only run of the game for Lowell (4-12), which lost its sixth straight game. Spinner starter Roman Mendez was charged with two runs (one earned) on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings for the loss.

Vermont returns to historic Centennial Field to begin a three-game homestand on Sunday at 4:05 pm against the Williamsport Crosscutters. Taylor Jordan is scheduled to start for the first-place Lake Monsters, which will also host the Crosscutters on Monday at Tuesday at Centennial.

NOTE: If the Connecticut Tigers lose Saturday night to Tri-City (they trail 10-2 in the 5th at this time), the Lake Monsters will lead the Stedler Division by 4.0 games over Connecticut ... At no time in the team's 17-year history has Vermont led its division by as many as 4.0 games ... The largest previous division leads were 3.5 games in early 2001 (8-0) and in late 1996 (45-28) when the Vermont Expos played in the McNamara Division.
