Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
Ramon Ramirez (1-2) made one mistake in his second start of the season Friday night, but it was the difference in a 2-1 Pawtucket Red Sox loss.
The PawSox jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after one inning, but Columbus wasted no time grasping hold of the lead. Columbus Clippers' third baseman Jared Goedert cracked a two-run homerun to right field an inning later to give the Columbus the lead for good. Goedert's home run was his fourth on the season and it drove in Wes Hodges who reached via a single.
Despite being down just one run, the PawSox were unable to mount a scoring threat in the latter innings as they managed just one hit over the final six innings.
Columbus' starter Josh Tomlin (6-2), earned the win- settling-in after getting knocked around early and allowing a first inning run. Over the course of his outing Tomlin surrendered three hits and walked five, but he did not allow a run after the first inning.
Ramirez went 4.1 innings for Pawtucket in a losing effort. The first man out of the pen for Pawtucket was Robert Coello who pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, striking out five along the way. On the season, Coello has pitched 6.2 shutout innings for Pawtucket and batters are hitting 1-for-19 off the 6'5" righty.
The lone run of the game for Pawtucket came in the first inning on an Angel Sanchez double. Sanchez' ninth double of the season scored Jorge Jimenez from second base.
The four-game series continues Saturday at 6:05 p.m. with Pawtucket's Adam Mills (1-5, 3.57 ERA) matching-up against Aaron Laffey (0-1, 4.91 ERA) for Columbus in game three.
