Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
SALISBURY, MD - For the second time this season the Kannapolis Intimidators are swept, this time in a three game series at the hands of the Delmarva Shorebirds by the score of 8-6. The Intimidators were also swept in a four game series to open the season.
The Intimidators (30-35) opened the scoring in the second inning as Brady Shoemaker reached on a single, advanced to second after a walk and with two outs was sent home on an RBI-single by Daniel Wagner to take a 1-0 lead.
Ahead 1-0, Joe Serafin went out for the second inning and allowed back-to-back two run innings in the second and third as he allowed back-to-back extra base hits in the second and a triple in the third. However, errors aided both innings and through the first four runs, only one was earned.
Down 4-1 in the fourth the Intimidators mounted a comeback as Shoemaker walked to lead off the inning and Rafael Vera tripled to left center scoring Shoemaker. The next hitter Kevin Dubler singled to the right hand side, scoring a run and making it 4-3. In the next inning, Zach Kayne doubled to lead it off, was sacrificed to third and scored on a ground ball to tie it up at four.
In the fifth, with one out and one on the lights went out at Arthur W. Purdue and delayed the game, upon resumption, it was all Shorebords. They added a run in the fifth off Serafin (6-4) and three more in the sixth, again aided by errors as eight score on Serafin with three of those being earned. Zach Piccola relieved Serafin with one out in the sixth.
The Intimidators managed two runs in the eighth but could do no more damage losing the ballgame 8-6. Luis Noel (2-2) took the win, and James Brandhorst struck out the side for a save in the ninth.
The Intimidators will travel to Lakewood, NJ to play the BlueClaws in a four game series to end the first half with the first game beginning at 7:05.
