Midland RockHounds News Release

Okay, it wasn't "go fly a kite night" but, if you had flown a kite in the first inning or two of Friday's game, that kite would be landing about now ... in Yugoslavia. According to the Weather Channel's web site, the West Texas wind was blowing at between 40 and 55 miles per hour in the early going of the ballgame. From there, the conditions went from calm and rainy to calm and a splash of sun and finished with the wind returning, albeit a little kinder and gentler. Oh, by the way ...

The RockHounds and Corpus Christi "played on through," with the 'Hounds defeating the Hooks, 4-2, behind a solid performance from starter Carlos Hernandez and the bat of center fielder Corey Brown.

"Browny" found the right field bullpen in the first inning, a home run much like that hit by Koby Clemens on Thursday night. True, both were "short porch" homers, but both had cut through some major league wind to get out of the yard. Brown's home run, his fourth in 18 games with the 'Hounds in 2010 (and his third in eight games) was the game's first run.

After Corpus tied the game, 1-1, on an error-aided, unearned run n the third, the RockHounds scored in the fourth and fifth, each manufactured with three singles. Josh Horton and Brown drove in the runs, with Corey's second RBI of the night becoming the eventual game-winner.

Adrian Cardenas went 2-for-4 in his return to the RockHounds. "AC" was hitting just .228 at Triple-A Sacramento, so the A's #9 prospect will look to get his stroke back with the 'Hounds. His eighth inning double turned into an insurance run and a 4-2 lead when he scored on Gabe Ortiz' sacrifice fly (on an 0-2 pitch).

Jared Lansford earned a two-inning save, striking out David Cook and Clemens, back-to-back with the tying run at the plate in the last of the ninth. He caught Clemens looking at a high strike to end the game, "Lanny's" seventh save in as many opportunities, and the club's second win in three games in the home stand versus the Hooks.
