Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
You had to think "what might have been" on Wednesday afternoon in Indianapolis. The Indians beat Pawtucket 5-3, lead by Pedro Alvarez who went 3-4 with a triple, homer and a double. Alavrez was a first round pick of the Pirates in 2008 after a standout career at Vanderbilt University. He also was selected by the Red Sox in the 14th round in 2005, but opted for college instead. Alvarez scored twice.
Trailing 3-1, the PawSox tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning with two outs as Aaron Bates singled in a pair of runs. Indianapolis answered quickly in the bottom of the inning with the games' final two runs.
Kris Johnson (3-5) took the loss working 5 innings, walikng 3 and whiffing 4 batters. T.J. Large and Chad Paronto combned for three shutout innings of relief. Mike Crotta (4-3) was the winner and Jean Machi picked up his ninth save.
The series continues on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Michael Bowden (1-2, 5.06) facesDaniel McCutchen (3-3, 4.45).
