G-Braves Drop Second Straight, 3-1

The Lead: The Norfolk Tides defeated the Gwinnett Braves 3-1 on Wednesday night at Harbor Park. G-Braves outfielder Matt Young had his second 3-hit game in as many days.This was after Young went 0-for-4 in the final game of the latest Gwinnett homestand (6/7 vs. Scranton/Wilkes Barre). Gwinnett (26-33) now falls into a second place tie with Norfolk (27-34) and Charlotte in the International League South and 9.5 games behind Durham.

It Was Over When: In the bottom of the 5th inning after the G-Braves cut the Tides' lead to 2-1, Tides second baseman Robert Andino hit an RBI single that brought shortstop Blake Davis in to score and increase their lead, 3-1. Neither team was able to post another run on the board.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Starter Tim Gustafson (5-4) was credited with the loss, giving up 3 R (2 ER) on 6 hits. Gustafson struck out 6 in 6 innings.

At the plate: Young went 3-for-4. Third baseman Wes Timmons went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Right fielder Mitch Jones (1-for-4) and shortstop Brandon Hicks (1-for-4) were the only other Gwinnett players to record hits.

The opposition:

On the Mound: Starter Armando Gabino (3-0) continued his unbeaten Triple-A season by striking out 7 in 5.2 IP. Dennis Sarfate earned his 6th save and his second save in as many days over the G-Braves.

At the plate: Designated hitter Rhyne Hughes went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Andino went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

On Deck: Gwinnett takes on Norfolk tomorrow night at Harbor Park at 7:15 p.m. RHP Chris Resop (4-2, 2.10 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Braves. Norfolk will start RHP Jake Arrieta (6-2, 1.85 ERA).
