Greenville Drive News Release

Hagerstown, MD - For the second straight series the Drive (25-27) entered the finale looking for a win to take the series three games to one. But again it was the opposition, this time the Hagerstown Suns (28-23), who came away the victor to split the four-game set.

Behind a trio of pitchers, led by starter Paul Demny (2-1) who tossed 5.0 shutout innings in which he struckout seven, the Suns captured a 4-0 win. Relievers Kyle Morrison and Rob Wort combined on the final four innings, allowing just four hits and striking out five.

Making his first start in almost two weeks, Pete Ruiz (4-3) was activated from the disabled list just before Monday's game to fill in for regularly schedule starter Ryan Pressly who landed on the DL.

Although he suffered the loss, Ruiz showed no ill effects from his rib contusion. The right-hander surrendered three runs - two earned - on six hits and two walks, while fanning five in 5.0 innings.

Following Ruiz, right-hander Jordan Flasher emerged from the bullpen to toss the final three innings for Greenville. Flasher allowed a run on three hits, while also fanning five.

Despite falling behind 2-0 through three innings, the Drive offense had its opportunities to get back in the game. In the top of the fourth, Michael Almanzar singled and Reynaldo Rodriguez doubled to put two runners in scoring position with one out. But Demny struckout Zach Gentile and induced Christian Vazquez to groundout to end the threat.

The inability to come up with a key hit was the theme for the Drive on Memorial Day, as they combined to go 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position, as well as leaving 10 runners on base. In addition to the fourth inning, Greenville had runners in scoring position in the eighth and ninth inning with zero or one outs, but could not get on the scoreboard.

The Drive will look to rebound on Tuesday, as they now travel to Kannapolis, NC for a four-game series with the Intimidators. Right-hander Kendal Volz (3-2, 3.69 ERA) will take the bump for Greenville, while Kannapolis counters with southpaw Matt Wickswat (5-3, 4.91 ERA) as first pitch is at 7:05 PM.

Following their road trip, the Drive return home to Fluor Field on Saturday, June 5th for a four-game series with the Augusta GreenJackets. For more information regarding single-game tickets, group outings, and luxury accommodations, visit www.GreenvilleDrive.com or call (864) 240-4500.
