May 14, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release

Richmond, Va - The Altoona Curve could not hold an early 1-0 lead as the Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA - San Francisco) widened their first-place margin in the E.L. Western Division over Altoona to 1.5 games with a 7-1 victory on Friday night at The Diamond.

After Chase d'Arnaud scored on a Jordy Mercer RBI single in the first inning, the Squirrels would plate seven unanswered runs, sending Altoona (20-14) to a season-high fourth straight loss.

Curve starter Rudy Owens dropped his second consecutive decision. After the lefty tossed three scoreless frames, Owens allowed two runs in the fourth, before another pair came across in the fifth inning as Richmond (22-13) would send seven men to the plate. Owens tossed 6.0 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) while he struck out three batters.

The game was delayed one hour and 30 minutes due to rain in the eighth. Altoona reliever Corey Hamman came on to pitch after the delay and allowed three runs - two of which were inherited from reliever Tony Watson - to score and put Richmond ahead 7-1.

Offensively Altoona received contributions from Alex Presley who enjoyed a 3-for-4 night at the plate. It was Presley's ninth multi-hit game of the season and his third three-hit attack which leads the team.

Altoona will look to take the third game of the four-game set on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Jared Hughes (6-1, 3.53) will toe the rubber for the Curve while Richmond has yet to announce their starter. Air time on flagship station ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and Altoona Curve Radio Network affiliates is 6:05 p.m.

With Friday's loss, ticket prices remain their standard price for Wednesday's 6:30 p.m. game vs. Akron at Blair County Ballpark. For each win the Curve secure in the remaining two games on their current road trip, the team will knock one dollar off the price of any ticket at BCB for Wednesday's game as part of the Curve's "Road to Savings" promotion. The possible maximum discount on any ticket for Wednesday's game would be $2.
