Patriots Split Double Header With Camden

May 13, 2010 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Somerset Patriots News Release

In his Somerset debut, Michael Hernandez drove in Matt Hagen in the sixth inning, breaking a deadlock en route to a 2-1 win over the Camden Riversharks in game one of a doubleheader at Campbells Field on a cold, cloudy Wednesday night. The Patriots dropped the second contest 7-2.

With the game tied at 1-1, Hagen walked to lead off the sixth against reliever Ryan McKellar. Hernandez followed by sneaking a run-scoring double down the right field line off McKellar (0-2). The Brooklyn native was thrown out at third, but the Patriot bullpen would not relinquish the lead as Casey Cahill pitched a scoreless sixth and Ryan Houston saved his fifth game in five tries after a perfect seventh. Hernadez, who signed and activated before the series began, reached base all three times at the plate in his first game with Somerset, notching a walk and a single as well.

Jason Monti, making a spot start for Somerset, threw an efficient five innings for the win. The only run off the righty was a Garrett Guzman solo home run in the fourth. Monti (1-1) allowed just one more hit, striking out five without a walk. The Patriots scored one run in the fifth on a Ryan Freel RBI to tie the game off of Steve Hammond who struck out six, allowing just four hits in five frames.
