Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., May 13, 2010) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 10-7 on Thursday night at Suffolk County Sports Park.
A four-run second inning got the Revolution on board first off Long Island starter Jake Dittler. Three walks and RBI singles by Jose Herrera and Ian Bladergroen helped York open up a 4-0 advantage.
The lead didn't last long as the Flock fought back with five runs of their own in the third inning. Long Island sent 10 batters to the plate, pounding out six hits against Revs' starter Matt Riley and Jayson Ruhlman. Juan Francia's two-run single highlighted the inning and gave the Ducks their first lead of the contest.
York got a run right back in the top of the fourth as Liu Rodriguez hit a solo shot over the right field wall to even the score at five.
In the fifth, Long Island took the lead for good as Gabe Suarez ripped a two-out, two-run single to give the Ducks a 7-5 advantage. A RBI single by Matt Esquivel and a two-run homer by Robinson Cancel in the sixth helped the Ducks grab a five-run lead, and they never looked back.
Jerome Gamble (1-0) earned his first win of the season, allowing one run and one hit in his three and one-third innings of relief work. Nathan Starner (1-1) absorbed the loss, allowing three hits and two runs in two innings. Joe Valentine nailed down his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
