May 13, 2010 - Atlantic League (AtL) - Camden Riversharks News Release

CAMDEN, NJ - The Camden Riversharks announced today that third baseman, Mike Costanzo has signed a contract with the Cincinnati Reds organization. He will join Cincinnati's AA team, the Carolina Mudcats, of the Southern League.

"I am happy to move players back into affiliated ball. That is what this league is all about," Rivershaks Team Manager, Von Hayes said. "Mike had to prove that he was healthy. He worked hard to come back from a knee surgery and re-proved himself offensively and defensively," he added.

Costanzo has played both AA and AAA baseball, including the two years he spent with the Philadelphia Phillies organization in 2005 & 2006. He was a second round pick by the Phillies in 2005. Since then, he has played with the Reading Phillies, the Norfolk Tides and Bowie Baysox as a third baseman and designated hitter. During Costanzo's time with the Tides, the AAA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, he collected 64 runs, 71 RBI's and 140 hits.

This season for the Riversharks, Mike Costanzo has appeared in 16 games. He is currently tied for third in the league with four home runs, two of which he hit in one game against the Lancaster Barnstormers during a home series at Campbell's Field. So far this season, Costanzo has amassed a .278 batting average, 8 runs, 10 RBI's and 15 hits.

The Riversharks will be on the road for a three game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers starting tomorrow. They will return to Campbell's Field next Friday, May 21, to take on the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at 7:05pm. Tickets can be purchased at, or by calling 1-866-SHARKS-9.
