Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio - Kevin Coddington collected two hits and scored two runs in his first game back from the disabled list and Efrain Contreras drove in three runs to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 6-2 victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods before a crowd of 9,297 on Friday night. The Dragons climbed back to the .500 mark at 11-11 with the win. Bowling Green fell to 5-17 with the loss.
Dragons starting pitcher Josh Ravin (1-1) earned his first win of the season, working the first five innings. Ravin allowed three hits and two earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts. Blair Carson pitched effectively for two and two-thirds innings in a middle relief role. Donnie Joseph recorded the final four outs for his fourth save.
Dayton jumped out to the lead with three runs in the second inning, keyed by back-to-back run-scoring singles by Contreras and Didi Gregorius to make it 3-0. In the fourth, Mark Fleury led off the inning with a double to center and eventually scored on Contreras' sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
Bowling Green scored their only two runs of the night against Ravin in the fifth without getting a base hit, taking advantage of three hit batters, a walk, and a wild pitch in the inning to cut the deficit to 4-2.
It was still 4-2 when Joseph entered the game with two outs in the eighth and runners at second and third. He struck out Ty Morrison to end the threat.
Dayton added two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a bases loaded walk to Alex Oliveras and a sacrifice fly by Contreras to jump ahead 6-2, and Joseph closed it out in the ninth for the save.
The Dragons host the Hot Rods on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Brian Pearl (1-1, 4.74) will start for Dayton against Bowling Green's Jason McEachern (0-3, 5.79). The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Time Warner Basic Cable Channel 23 and Digital Channel 372). Former Reds Assistant Director of Player Development Grant Griesser will provide color commentary.
