April 18,2010: Buffalo Bisons vs. Scranton/WB Yankees
April 18, 2010 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Bisons host the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees for the second game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (1:05 p.m.). The Herd won the series opener last night, 2-0, and has now won three straight games to begin the first homestand of the season. Following Tuesday's game, the Bisons leave for a six-game roadtrip that starts with a pair of games in Rochester against the Red Wings.
vs. THE YANKS: The Bisons are 4-1 against the Yankees so far in 2010. The Herd began the season series by taking three of four from the Yanks in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, April 8-11. Dating back to last season, the Bisons have now won seven of their last nine matchups with the Yankees.
MOUND WORK: Thanks to the team's first shutout of the season yesterday, the Bisons' International League-best ERA fell even lower. Herd hurlers have posted a 2.00ERA over the first nine games, over a half a run better than the next closest team (Louisville, 2.60). The pitching staff has allowed just 74 hits in 81.0 innings of work with 26 walks and 62 strikeouts.
WE LIKE IKE: The broken record continued as INF IKE DAVIS collected a two-run single and a walk yesterday against the Yanks. The slugger has reached base twice in every game but one this season (4/13 at Syracuse). Davis has a six-game hit streak (.333, 6-18) and has drawn a walk in seven of the last eight games. Davis is tied for second in the International League with nine walks and a .514 on-base percentage.
HIT STREAK: OF JASON PRIDIE enters today's game with a five-game hit streak. Pridie has hit .316 (6-19) since last Monday and has now reached base in all but one game for the Bisons. Yesterday, he stole his team-leading third base of the season.
ROSTER MOVE: LHP TRAVIS BLACKLEY has been activated off the temporary inactive list. The 27-year old was 4-7 with a 4.85ERA in 38 total games with Triple-A Reno last season, but was 4-1 with a 2.82ERA as a reliever. To make roster room, RHP JOSE DE LA TORRE was transferred to Binghamton.
METS UPDATE: The Mets (4-7) won a 20-inning marathon over the St. Louis Cardinals, 2-1, in a game that lasted seven minutes shy of seven hours. The game remained scoreless until each team scored in the 19th inning. INF JOSE REYES hit a sac fly in the top of the 20th for the game winning run. New York closes out their first roadtrip of the season tonight with an 8:05 p.m. first pitch against the Cardinals.
