
Gwinnett Drops Seventh in a Row; 6-3 Loss at Charlotte

The Lead: The Charlotte Knights defeated the Gwinnett Braves 6-3 Saturday at Knight's Castle in Fort Mill, SC. The Braves (2-8) drop their seventh game in a row and drop to five games out of first in the International League South. Charlotte (7-3) remains in a first place tie with Durham in the IL South. The Bulls beat Norfolk 7-2 in Durham.
It Was Over When: Charlotte catcher Tyler Flowers hits a two run homer to left off of Gwinnett starting pitcher Tim Gustafson in the bottom of the third inning. That upped the Knights' lead to 4-0 and was a lead that the Braves could not overcome.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: Gustafson picks up the loss in his first ever Triple A start. His line: 3.2 IP, 8 H, 6R, 5ER, 2BB, 3 K. Cristhian Martinez works 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 2 K. Scott Proctor pitches a scoreless 7th with one hit and two strikeouts. Craig Kimbrel works a scoreless 8th with no hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
At the plate: Matt Young goes 2-for-5 with a solo homerun, his first of the season. Brent Clevlen also hit his first solo homer on the year. Clevlen finished 1-for-2. Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 with a double and a single.
Knights Beat:
On the Mound: Daniel Hudson goes to 2-and-0 with the win. His line: 5.1 IP, 7H 3R/ER, 2BB, 5 K. Clevelan Santeliz and Scott Elarton each pitched well. For Santeliz: 1.2 IP, 2BB, 1K. For Elarton: 1 IP, IK. Ryan Braun pitches a scoreless ninth for his second save of the year. His line: 1 IP, 1H, 1BB.
At the plate: Flowers was 2-for-4 with 1 HR and 3 RBI's. Brent Lillibridge 2-for-3 and a run scored. Jordan Danks 2-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI.
On Deck: Charlotte hosts Gwinnett in the final game of the four-game series tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. at Knights Castle. Braves RHP James Parr (0-1, 5.91 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Lucas Harrell (1-0, 4.63 ERA) of the Knights.
