
Cards Sweep Frisco, Win 6-4

Springfield, MO - The Cardinals won the first two games of the three game series with Frisco and were looking for the sweep on Saturday afternoon.
Frisco would jump out in front and take their first lead of the series in the first inning. After the lead off hitter reached on an error, Joey Butler doubled with one out to put runners on second and third. With two outs, Wes Bankston singled to center field to score both runners giving Frisco a 2-0 lead.
In the 3rd, the red hot Joey Butler stepped to the plate and blast a solo home run, his second of the year, to put the RoughRiders up 3-0.
Frisco starter Martin Perez went through the first three innings perfectly before the Cardinals got to him in the 4th. After Adron Chambers reach on an error to lead off the inning, Jim Rapoport worked a single to right after an 11 pitch at bat to put runners at first and third. Steven Hill then roped a double down the left field line to score Chambers and put runners on second and third. Andrew Brown followed with a two-run RBI single to tie the game 3-3.
Cardinals' starter Scott Gorgen pitched well going five innings allowing three runs, only one earned, on five hits while striking out four. The Springfield offense would grab the lead in the bottom of the 5th as Colt Sedbrook singled and took two bases on a wild pitch before scoring on the go-ahead RBI single by Adron Chambers. After Jim Rapoport singled to right putting runners on the corners, Steven Hill lifted a sacrifice fly to left to bring the Springfield lead to 5-3. Springfield added another run in the 6th as Antone DeJesus collected his first hit of the season, an RBI double, to take a 6-3 lead.
The Springfield bullpen of Chuckie Fick, Blake King and Adam Reifer was solid yet again allowing just a run in four innings of work giving Gorgen his second victory and Reifer earned his first save in the 6-4 win completing the three-game sweep of Frisco.
Springfield will begin a three game series against the Midland RockHounds tomorrow evening at 4:10pm. Sundays are Hiland Dairy Ice Cream Sundays where all kids coming into the park receive a free ice cream treat and new to Season Six will be Wild Animal Safari petting zoo prior to the game on the Prime Patio. Bar-S Foods and Price Cutter will also be giving away 2,500 Cardinals Escape to the Future Colby Rasmus T-Shirts and, as always, Kids are invited to Run the Bases following the game.
