Adirondack Phantoms News Release

GLENS FALLS, NY - Head Coach Greg Gilbert became the 15th coach in AHL history to record 300 career victories when Andreas Nodl scored in overtime to lead the Adirondack Phantoms to a 3-2 win over the Binghamton Senators Wednesday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

In a role reversal from last Friday's home game against Syracuse where Adirondack out-shot the Crunch 18-1 in a scoreless first period, the Phantoms managed just three shots on target in the first period against Binghamton, yet scored on their first two attempts. Danny Syvret scored a power play goal for the second straight game, blasting home a one-timer from Stefan Legein and Erik Gustafsson at 9:36 to put Adirondack ahead 1-0. The Phantoms second shot of the night also went it, but it took almost four and a half minutes to develop. Rookie Ben Holmstrom beat goaltender Mike Brodeur to the near post at 13:58, his third goal of the season, to make it 2-0 Adirondack. Ryan Keller put the Senators on the board at 15:48 as his shot from the top of the left circle eluded rookie goaltender Brian Stewart. Overall in the period Binghamton out-shot Adirondack 13-3, but the home side carried a 2-1 lead into the middle frame.

It was more of the same in the second period as the Senators out-shot the Phantoms 13-4, but this time Adirondack could not get any pucks past Brodeur. The Phantoms ran into penalty trouble with three-straight minors and Binghamton leveled the score with a power play goal from Keller at 8:55, assisted by Martin St. Pierre and Josh Hennessy to tie the game at 2-2.

The Phantoms came alive in the third period, out-shooting the B-Sens 12-5, but neither team could find the go-ahead goal and the game went into overtime. In the extra session Jon Kalinski picked up his own rebound and fed it into the middle of the crease where Andreas Nodl was driving hard to the net. Nodl out-muscled a Binghamton defenseman and deposited the puck into the open side of the goal at 3:00, sending the crowd into a frenzy and winning the game for the Phantoms.

Rookie goalie Brian Stewart stopped 31-of-33 shots to record his first career pro victory, helping Adirondack improve to 32-39-3-4 on the season. Mike Brodeur finished with 19 saves on 22 shots and took the loss as Binghamton fell to 34-34-6-3. The Senators out-shot the Phantoms 33-22 in the game and went 1-for-6 on the power play; Adirondack was 1-for-5 with the man-advantage. Head Coach Greg Gilbert improved his career AHL record to 300-249-42-47 in 638 AHL games; a career 54.0% winning percentage. With the overtime point Binghamton remains alive in the 2010 Calder Cup playoff race, but they have been pushed to the absolute brink of elimination.

With two games left in the 2009-2010 season presented by Bud Light, the Phantoms will host the Binghamton Senators again on Friday, April 9th for a 7:30 pm face off at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Part of a Guns N Hoses Doubleheader a local team of firefighters, policemen and EMS workers will take on the FDNY Hockey Team at 4:30 pm at the Civic Center to benefit the Glens Falls Ridge Street Fire Station 9-11 Memorial campaign.
