Aces Add Goaltending For Stretch Run

March 23, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Lake Erie Monsters have re-assigned goaltender Billy Sauer to Alaska. He will be in an Aces sweater Wednesday night when the club opens a three-game series against the Ontario Reign.

After a year in the USHL, Sauer enrolled at the University of Michigan in 2005 and went 71-30-8 over four seasons. His best year came as a junior, when he led the nation in wins with 30 against just four losses while setting Michigan single-season records with a 1.95 goals against average and a.924 save percentage and leading the Wolverines to the 2008 Frozen Four by being named to the East Region All-Tourney team. Originally drafted in the seventh round by the Colorado Avalanche in 2006, Sauer has split his rookie season between three clubs in the ECHL (4-2-1, 4.42,.875) and the Lake Erie Monsters (5-7-1, 3.09,.901).

Alaska enters its series in Ontario on a season-high eight-game unbeaten streak (5-0-3) and currently sits in third place in the National Conference, where six teams are separated by just two points. All three games against the Reign will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM. Wednesday and Saturday's games begin at 6:00 p.m. AT, with Friday's tilt scheduled for 6:30 p.m. AT. The two clubs met three times in Anchorage two weeks ago, with each team earning four of a possible six points.
