
Silvertips Earn 3-1 Victory Over Thunderbirds

Everett, WA - The Everett Silvertips earned a hard fought 3-1 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds Friday night at Comcast Arena. Markus McCrea, Kellan Tochkin and Scott MacDonald scored for the Silvertips. Ryan Murray grabbed an assist and played a solid 60 minutes for Everett to earn first star of the night. Kent Simpson made 26 saves for his 22nd win of the year. Daniel Iwanski picked up two assists moving his point total to 16 this season. Everett is two points behind the Western Conference and U.S. Division leading Tri-City Americans with two games remaining. Everett has one game at hand on Tri-City.
McCrea started the scoring for Everett Friday night with his fifth goal of the season at 4:01 of the first period. Daniel Iwanski controlled the puck behind Seattle's net before making a great pass on the backhand to McCrea backdoor beating Seattle goalie Michael Salmon for a 1-0 Everett lead. Everett controlled the lead in shots after the first period 12-7.
Charles Wells tied the game for Seattle at 6:42 of the second period on the power play. Scoring his 20th goal of the season, Wells beat Simpson top shelf, glove side on a well placed shot from the point. Everett regained the lead on the power play with Tochkin's 27th goal of the year at 11:35. Tochkin scored after firing a hard wrist shot, from the left circle, off the post and off Salmon's back past the goal line for a 2-1 lead.
The Silvertips increased their lead with MacDonald's ninth goal of the season at 13:22. Iwanski fired a shot on net from the right circle that snuck past Salmon. MacDonald knocked home the loose puck in the crease to make the score 3-1 Everett. Simpson stopped all seven shots faced in the third period to help Everett to a 3-1 win over Seattle.
This brings the âTips record to 45-20-3-2 with 95 points in 70 games played. The Silvertips take on the Chilliwack Bruins for the final home game of the regular season at 7:05 pm tomorrow night at Comcast Arena. Everett finishes their regular season this Sunday in Spokane for a 6:00 pm puck drop against the Chiefs.
