Marlies Sign Defenceman Simon Gysbers To ATO Contract

The Toronto Marlies announced today that the club has signed defenceman Simon Gysbers to an amateur try-out contract. In addition, the club has also signed defenceman Ryan Stokes to an American Hockey League contract.

Gysbers, 22, skated in 38 games with the Lake Superior State Lakers of the NCAA, posting 15 points (six goals, nine assists) and 46 penalty minutes. The 6'4, 185-pound defenceman from Richmond Hill, Ontario recorded 19 goals and 49 assists for 68 points over four seasons at Lake Superior State.

Stokes, 26, has appeared in 21 games with the Marlies this season, notching two assists to go along with 17 penalty minutes and a plus-five rating. The 6'4, 200-pound defenceman was originally signed to a PTO contract by the club on January 22, 2010.

The Marlies travel to Chicago on Friday night to take on the Wolves, AHL affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers, for an 8:30 p.m. (ET) matchup at Allstate Arena.
