Pirates Release Caruana

Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League announced today that they have released Matt Caruana from his professional tryout agreement.

In his second stint with the Pirates this season, the 24 year-old forward from Orono, Ontario registered one goal and four assists for five points in 16 games. In total this season Caruana collected three goals and six assists for nine points in 36 games.

Caruana is expected to return to the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL.

The next Pirates home game takes place this Friday when the Manchester Monarchs visit the CCCC for a 7 p.m. start. Come experience the first ever Adopt-A-Pet Night at the Pirates sponsored by Camp Bow Wow. Saturday (March 13th) the Pirates take on the Binghamton Senators on Retro Night. The Pirates will wear 1993-1994 AHL championship jerseys, sponsored by Bath Savings Institution, and after the game fans will be able to bid on select jerseys at portlandpirates.com. 1993-94 team members Kent Hulst and Jeff Nelson will be in attendance at the game and the Portland Press Herald will be distributing a reprint of the front page from the Press Herald following the Calder Cup-clinching game. Special 1993-94 ticket pricing is in effect for the game, $8 for Quarter Deck and $10 for Main Deck. It's also a Labatt Blue Light Hockey Night in Portland with Labatt Blue Light specials at Binga's Stadium, Brian Boru, Frosty Pint and Spring Point Tavern before and after the game. Salty Pete's Treasure Chest filled with over $500 in prizes will be up for grabs. Fill out a survey at Customer Service to win. The game can also be seen live on Time Warner Cable Sports.

Sunday (March 14th) Pirates fans are encouraged to show their support for local charities by bringing teddy bears to the game. As a part of this annual charity event, fans will celebrate the first Pirates goal of the game by tossing their teddies onto the ice. All Teddy Bears collected will be donated to local charities, including The Center for Grieving Children and Mid Coast Hospital. It's also a Sudzie Family Five Pack Game. Five Main Deck tickets, five hot dogs or pizza slices, five sodas, one Daily Scroll game program, and one free Sudzie Minuteman exterior car wash all for only $60. That's less than half the $123 value.
