February 25, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose topped the Houston Aeros 3-2 on Thursday night to close-out their four-game regular season series against the club at the Toyota Center. Manitoba finished with an even 2-2-0-0 record against Houston this campaign. Sergei Shirokov, Michael Grabner and Pierre-Cedric Labrie all notched goals for the Moose while Cory Schneider stopped 26 of 28 shots in his 25th victory this season.
Guillaume Desbiens' hooking penalty at 6:03 gave the Aeros the first powerplay of the game. Houston was able to bring their shot count to five on the man-advantage, but couldn't beat starting goaltender Cory Schneider during the short two-minutes.
Former Moose skater Nathan Smith was handed a hooking penalty of his own at 15:36. Manitoba's powerplay unit fired two shots in their debut performance but couldn't open the scoring against net minder Barry Brust.
By the midway point of the game the Aeros were leading the shot clock 13-11.
With Justin Falk serving time for holding, the Moose capitalized on their 13th shot of the night. With a feed from Guillaume Desbiens, sniper Sergei Shirokov smacked the puck off the doorstep and into the mesh for 1-0 lead on the PP.
Just three minutes later, the Aeros were able to answer back when Duncan Milroy notched an even-strength marker to knot the game at one. Less than a minute after the goal, the Moose responded. Michael Grabner fired a wrist shot from inside the blue line to beat Brust over his glove hand to regain a one-goal lead.
With Matt Pope serving a high-sticking penalty at 14:21 of the third period, the Aeros were able to tie the game. Maxim Noreau topped the puck over Schneider for a 2-2 tally.
With 3:23 left to go, Pierre-Cedric Labrie battled for the puck in front of Brust's crease. When the left-winger claimed the bullet, he backhanded it into the net to confirm the game, 3-2.
LOOKING AHEAD The Moose head to San Antonio for a double-header against the Rampage starting tomorrow night.
NEXT GAME Friday, February 26, 2010 - 7:00PM @ AT&T Center (7:00pm on CJOB Radio with Brian Munz)
