Utah Flash News Release

OREM, Utah - The Iowa Energy used a balanced scoring attack to drop the Utah Flash 126-112 Saturday night at the McKay Events Center. Iowa, who boasts the best record in the league, had eight players score in double figures.

"It was a good basketball game," said head coach Brad Jones. "I thought they, being the best team in the league, really showed it in the second half and came out with a lot of focus. I thought we competed, and hopefully we saw that when we play well and really focus we can play strong against the even the best teams."

Both teams came out strong, not missing a single basket in the first six minutes of play. Utah's Luke Nevill led all scorers with 10 points while Bennett Davis chipped in eight. Iowa's Courtney Sims carried the Energy with six points, and the team shot 67 percent in both free throws and from the three-point line. Closing the quarter, Nevill landed a buzzer-beater giving the Flash a 34-26 advantage.

Opening the second quarter, Andre Ingram landed back-to-back three-pointers and pushed Utah's lead to 42-35. Iowa fought back trying to steal the lead and a combination of Earl Barron's six points and Cartier Martin's seven points game Iowa a 57-54 halftime lead. Utah's Carlos Wheeler tallied nine points for the Flash in the second quarter.

Tying the game twice in the third quarter, Utah's Orien Greene tied the game, 68-68. Stretching a lead with an eight-point run, Iowa jumped ahead 83-75. Stepping up for the Flash, Brian Hamilton went on his own five-point run narrowing the gap 87-81. Two points from Iowa's Othyus Jeffers concluded the third quarter, 89-81 for the Energy.

Continuing the battle into the final quarter, Iowa rallied during the fourth pulling ahead 116-103 with three minutes remaining. Unable to take back the lead, the Flash fell to the Energy 126-112.

Leading scorers for the Flash were Ingram and Hamilton, tied with 18, while the Energy were led by Martin and Jeffers with 24 and 20 points, respectively.

The Flash will play again Friday, February 26 at 7 p.m. against the Los Angeles Defenders in Los Angeles.
