Stampede Slide Past D-Fenders In Exciting Home Win

BOISE, Idaho, January 30, 2010 - Donell Taylor led the Idaho Stampede in an exciting home win, defeating the Los Angeles D-Fenders 106 - 103 in Boise.

Both teams came out strong and battled hard for 48 minutes. In the first two quarters Coby Karl and Joe Dabbert both contributed 10 points for the Stampede. The D-Fenders once led by as much as 13 in the first half. However, 11 turnovers by L.A. helped the Stampede cut the lead down to seven heading to the locker room.

All five of the D-Fenders starters were in double-figures at the end of the third quarter including team high Frank Robinson with 15. Diamon Simpson led L.A.'s defensive effort with nine boards and two blocked shots.

The Stampede maintained the tempo in the third and tried to chop the L.A. lead down. By the end of the quarter Dabbert had 12 points, seven rebounds, and five blocked shots. Donell Taylor and Coby Karl were also in double-digit figures with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Despite Idaho's effort, the D-Fenders maintained a six point lead heading into the final quarter.

With just under five minutes to go in the game, Idaho took their first lead of the game since the first quarter, 92 - 90. Two turnovers and one foul by L.A. then put the Stampede up by five with four minutes to go. After a few quick buckets by both teams, the Stampede's lead was down to just two.

A foul by Idaho's Mildon Ambres sent Simpson to the line where he made both shots giving the lead back to the D-Fenders once again. Taylor answered quickly for Idaho with a layup putting the Stampede up by one with 20 seconds on the clock. L.A. turned over the ball giving the Stampede control and Ambres went back to the line and made both free throws. Ryan Forehan-Kelly attempted a three-point basket but missed, sealing the win for the Stampede.

"It was an excellent team win tonight," said Stampede Head Coach Bob MacKinnon. "Everyone contributed and it was great to get a win at home before heading into a six-game road trip."

Despite the loss, the D-Fenders finished the game with seven players in double-figures including Forehan-Kelly with a team high 20, Robinson with 15, James Wright with 14, Simpson with 13, and Gabriel Hughes and Joe Crawford coming off the bench to score 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Taylor finished the game with a game high 26 points for the Stampede. Karl finished with 18 points and Dabbert ended with 12 points, eight boards and a game high five blocked shots. Ambres came off the bench to contribute 12 points and eight rebounds in the Stampede win.
