South Carolina Stingrays News Release

The South Carolina Stingrays are teaming up with the American Red Cross to bring two Haiti Relief Nights to the North Charleston Coliseum.

On Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13, the American Red Cross will be at both entrances as well on the main concourse of the Coliseum to accept monetary donations for the Haiti Relief and Development Fund as the Stingrays battle the Florida Everblades. All donations are welcome and greatly appreciated.

The Stingrays are proud to present the 4th Annual "Pink in the Rink" held on Saturday, February 20 at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum as the Stingrays battle the Toledo Walleye. This season, Pink in the Rink will be raising money for Susan G. Komen-Lowcountry.

To support the cause, fans can purchase Pink Packs, group tickets and vendor tables with a portion of the proceeds going to Susan G. Komen. Pink Packs include your ticket to the game, an exclusive "2010 Pink in the Rink" Stingrays t-shirt and Hockey 101 session.

The game itself will feature pink Stingrays jerseys, pink ice and pink sticks. Fans will have the opportunity to bid on the sticks in a silent auction during the game. The jerseys will be auctioned off live after the game.

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, the Stingrays players are using every second of their free time to find the perfect gift for their valentine. Along the way, we caught up to them to ask what some of their favorite and not so favorite Valentine´s Day memories were.

Nikita Kashirsky: "A big surprise was when my valentine took me out to dinner rather than me taking her. One time I really surprised her by giving her 101 roses. I couldn´t give her an even number and I wanted it to be huge, so I picked 101."

Matt Scherer: "One time when I was in juniors, I got up real early in the morning to drive about four hours to see my valentine. At that time a huge snowstorm hit and the roads became extremely icy. About 40 miles into my journey, I slid off the road and landed in a ditch. Thankfully I made it out in time to still be able to go and see her and get home in time for curfew."

Spencer Carbery: "I got engaged two years ago on the day after Valentine's Day so that day holds special value to me.

Another thing that happed on Valentin's Day was one year I had planned an elaborate dinner that I was going to cook and things didn't go exactly to plan. I burned the steak and messed up the potatoes and we ended up going out to dinner that night. It turned out alright, but I was a little embarrassed with my cooking skills. I don't think I'll be trying that again."

The South Carolina Stingrays congratulate Jerry Barnett, the winner of the 2009 Kelly Cup Championship ring giveaway. "I saw the signup sheets around the building at the beginning of the season and I had never won anything before, so I figured I would just put my name in to try," Barnett said. "My jaw hit the floor when the office called and I found out that Cail had pulled my name. Now all my friends call wanting to see and touch it."
