Checkers Best Stingrays 3-1 in Series Finale

Charlotte, NC - The South Carolina Stingrays (31-14-4-5) fell 3-1 to the Charlotte Checkers (27-15-3-3) in front of 3,823 at Time Warner Cable Arena Wednesday night. Stingrays forward Trent Campbell pushed his point streak to four games (3g, 1a) in the loss.

The Stingrays opened the scoring late in the first period with an unassisted shorthanded marker from Campbell at 19:45 with rookie Trevor Bruess in the box for hooking. Campbell slipped a shot under the left pad of Checkers goaltender Ryan Munce for his 13 goal of the season.

Checkers forward Tyler Doig tied the game at 18:12 of the second period beating Stingrays goaltender Shane Connelly between the legs with a wrist shot along the bottom of the right-wing circle. Forward Michel Leveille recorded the lone assist.

The Checkers broke the tie at 9:17 of the third period with a power-play goal from former Stingray Matt Stefanishion from defenseman Ethan Graham and Leveille. Charlotte iced the game at 10:53 with a tally from forward Jean-Philipp Chabot from center Mike Taylor and winger Andrew Carroll. Connelly finished the game making 35 saves on 38 Checkers shots. Munce earned his 12 win of the season stopping 33 of 34 Stingrays chances. Charlotte ended the night 1-for-6 on the power play while the Stingrays went 0-for-5.

The Stingrays return to North Charleston Coliseum Friday, February 12 at 7:05 p.m. against the Florida Everblades for $2 Beer Night and Haiti Relief Night with the American Red Cross.
