CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Cyclones used a three goal second period to slip past the Kalamazoo Wings, 5-2, on Wednesday night. After spotting the Wings a 2-0 lead, the Cyclones rallied for the final five goals of the evening. Dustin Sproat netted a pair of goals in the triumph. Barret Ehgoetz became the club's all-time leading scored with 215 points after a goal and an assist performance.

It was the second time this season that the Cyclones wiped out a two goal deficit and raced to a victory. The other occurred on November 27 in a 6-5 win against Kalamazoo.

Kalamazoo scored the lone goal of the first period when sixth year forward Darryl Lloyd snapped off a shot from the left wing side past Cincinnati netminder Jeremy Smith. It was the twelfth goal of the season for Lloyd, who was assisted by former Cyclone Sam Ftorek and Mitch Versteeg. The shots on goal favored the Cyclones, 13-4, in the term.

The Wings extended the lead to 2-0 when Rick Cleaver banged home his 19th score of the campaign on the power play at 5:36. Derek Strong and Jon Landry had the assists on the score. After eight minutes of play in the middle period, Cincinnati Head Coach Chuck Weber used his timeout for the game. The Cyclones had been outshot, 7-0, to that point.

The next three goals all went Cincinnati's way. Dustin Sproat got things rolling at 9:58 with a power play score from the top of the goal crease as Jimmy Kilpatrick and Mark Voakes had the assists. Just 28 seconds later, Chris Morehouse picked up a puck in a scramble in front of the net and slipped it past Wings netminder Ryan Nie to knot the scores at one each. Scott Reynolds and Ryan Del Monte had the helpers. The first lead of the night for the Cyclones came at 14:22 when Voakes tipped home a man-advantage goal, his sixth of the season, from Jimmy Kilpatrick and Barret Ehgoetz. The shots on goal for the frame favored Kalamazoo, 9-8. It was the twelfth time this season that the Cyclones scored three or more goals in a period and the third time against Kalamazoo.

With the assist by Barret Ehgoetz in the second period, he passed Sheldon Gorski for the club's career scoring lead with 214 points. Ehgoetz has 75 goals and 139 assists for the top spot. The fifth year center from Kincardine, Ontario has played the last four seasons in Cincinnati. Gorski played for the club in its inaugural seasons in Louisville (1995-96 through 1997-98) and in Miami (1998-99)-but never appeared in a game for the team in Cincinnati. He would score a third period goal to extend those numbers.

Cincinnati notched a pair of goals in the third period to secure the win. Ehgoetz lit the lamp for the 18th time this season at 2:54 from Ryan Del Monte and Scott Reynolds. The scoring was closed out at 4:01 when Sproat got his second of the night and 15th of the year from Morehouse and Kilpatrick. The shots again favored Cincinnati, 11-7. For the game, the Cyclones won the shots battle, 32-20.

The Cyclones were two for seven on the power play, while Kalamazoo was one for five with the extra man. Jeremy Smith won his 16th game of the season, stopping 18 shots. Former Cyclone Ryan Nie was pinned with the loss, turning aside 27 shots.

Cincinnati is 31-17-1, while Kalamazoo drops to 24-15-6. The Cyclones kick off a three-games-in-three-nights stretch on Friday at Toledo at 7pm. Saturday (Feb. 13), the club returns to U.S. Bank Arena for ‘Barret Ehgoetz Kids Replica Jersey T-Shirt Night' with a 7:30pm clash against Johnstown and heads to Johnstown for a 7pm Valentine's Day showdown with the Chiefs.

With the win, Cincinnati extends its lead in the North Division to seven points over second place Wheeling and nine points over Kalamazoo and Toledo. The club is 14 games above .500 for the first time this season.
