Everett Silvertips News Release
Red Deer, AB - The Everett Silvertips collected their second straight win on their season long seven game road trip with a 3-0 blanking of the Red Deer Rebels. Thomas Heemskerk stopped all 41 shots for his first shutout since a 4-0 win against the Seattle thunderbirds on February 13th, 2009. Everett Defenseman Radko Gudas led the scoring charge with his sixth and seventh goals of the season. Daniel Iwanski collected a goal to round out Everett's scoring Saturday night, while Tyler Maxwell added two assists. Everett's penalty kill stopped all six Red Deer power play opportunities moving the Silvertips to 10 for 10 on the penalty kill during their current road trip.
Gudas opened the scoring at 1:12 of the second period on a wrist shot that beat Darcy Kumper up high glove side, Maxwell collected the assist on Everett's first goal of the night. Late in the period after Zack Dailey and Dale Hunt won puck battles behind the net, Iwanski banked in his own rebound for his third of the season at 16:55.
The Silvertips waited until the beginning of the third period for their first power play, when Gudas again found the back of the net with a shot from the top of the point that beat Kuemper down low with traffic in front at 5:12. Heemskerk, with the Rebels on the power play late in the period, made a superb save sliding to his right to rob Andrej Kurdana.
This brings the âTips record to 8-4-0-0 with 16 points in 12 games played. The Silvertips continue their seven game road trip tomorrow afternoon with a 1:00 pm start against the Edmonton Oil Kings.
The Silvertips continue the 2009-2010 season at Comcast Arena Friday, November 13th against the Kelowna Rockets. Tickets are on sale now at everettsilvertips.com and at the Comcast Arena Box Office.
