Day Three Results And Stats - Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup

Blackfalds, AB - Derrick Pouliot opened the scoring 35 seconds in, and Regan Santoro stopped 25 shots as Team Saskatchewan scored a convincing 6-2 victory over team BC during the final day of round robin action at the Western Canada Under 16 Challenge Cup on Saturday. In the battle of unbeatens on Saturday afternoon, it was Team Manitoba that kept their perfect record intact with a 3-1 win over Team Alberta. Manitoba will meet Alberta in the Gold medal final Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm to crown the first ever Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup Champion, while Saskatchewan will face British Columbia Sunday morning at 11:00am to play for the Bronze medal.

GAME 5: Team Saskatchewan 6 - Team BC 2

Derrick Pouliot opened the scoring 35 seconds in, and Regan Santoro stopped 25 shots as Team Saskatchewan scored a convincing 6-2 victory over team BC in a Halloween matinee at the Blackfalds Multiplex on Saturday.

An early marker by Derrick Pouliot and a late period goal with 2 minutes remaining from forward Jared Iron gave Saskatchewan the 2-0 lead after one period of play.

The second period saw Team Saskatchewan establish a five goal lead with markers from Kohl Bauml and Tyrel Seaman 26 seconds apart. Taylor Leigh scored midway through the second frame to give Saskatchewan a 5-0 lead halfway through the game. BC defenseman Morgan Rielly got his team on the board with a power play goal with just under three minutes to go in period number two.

The third period saw both teams exchange goals. Jared Iron scored his second of the night four minutes into the period and Evan Richardson scored from high in the slot to cap off his player of the game performance.

Both teams will meet again Sunday morning at 11:00am to play for the bronze medal.

Player of the game for BC was #19 Evan Richardson. Player of the game for Saskatchewan was #7 Michael Statchuk.

Game #6: Team Alberta 1 - Team Manitoba 3

In a battle of unbeatens on Saturday afternoon, it was Team Manitoba that kept their perfect record intact with a 3-1 win over Team Alberta.

Jordyn Boyd scored the lone goal of the first period just 1:10 after the drop of the puck to give Manitoba the lead after one period of play.

Period number two saw Manitoba score a pair of goals on the power play from Reid Gow and Justin Hamonic. Alberta countered with a goal of their own at 16:36 of the second period on a great effort from defenseman Matt Dumba.

The third period saw neither team score, and Team Manitoba held on for the 3-1 win.

Player of the game for Alberta was #8 Matt Dumba. Player of the game for Manitoba was #35 Brendan Fiebelkorn.

These two teams will meet again in the gold medal final Sunday afternoon to crown the first ever Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup Champion.
