Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades moved into a tie atop the WHL's Eastern Conference standings with a 4-3 road victory on Saturday night.
Stefan Elliott (North Vancouver, BC) had two goals while Charles Inglis (Saskatoon, SK) had a goal and an assist and Walker Wintoneak (Flin Flon, MB) added another marker in the victory.
For the ninth time this season the Blades opened the scoring in a hockey game. Just 51 seconds into the game, Elliott held in a clearing attempt by the Warriors in the zone and sent a wrist shot from the point that managed to find its way past goaltender Jeff Bosch for the 7th goal on the season for the veteran defenseman.
Inglis put the Blades up 2-0 with just over a minute remaining in the first period. After some good cycle work down low by rookies Brent Benson (Weyburn, SK) and Duncan Siemens (Sherwood Park, AB), the puck found its way out front to Inglis, who put home his 4th on the campaign.
The Blades began the second period shorthanded; however, it was while a man down that Gaelan Patterson (Saskatoon, SK) found Wintoneak on a 2-on-1 to give the Blades a 3-0 lead 42 seconds into the period.
The Warriors would begin their comeback with eight and a half minutes remaining in the second when Thomas Frazee put home his 5th goal of the season to get the home squad on the board.
Kendall McFaull brought the Warriors within one while the teams were 4-on-4 at the 15:47 mark of the second frame after take a feed in front and getting the puck past Blades' goaltender Adam Morrison (White Rock, BC).
Four minutes into the third the Warriors completed the comeback, while on the power play, as sophomore forward Quinton Howden put home a Jason Bast centering pass to make it 3-3.
However, three minutes later Elliott picked up his second on the night that would turn out to be the game winner. The third-year rearguard took a pass from Jeremy Boyer (Saskatoon, SK) on the left hand side of the Warriors' zone, cut into the middle, and outwaited a sprawling Bosch before putting it upstairs.
Final score Saskatoon 4, Moose Jaw 3.
Morrison was the busier of the two netminders on the night, making 29 saves on 32 shots to claim the victory. At the other end, Bosch made 15 saves on 19 shots in defeat.
With the win, the Blades (12-3-0-2) now move into a tie for first place in the WHL's Eastern Conference with the Calgary Hitmen at 26 points. The Warriors (11-6-0-0) continue to sit in second place behind the Blades in the WHL's East Division at 22 points.
