Bridgeport Islanders News Release
Bridgeport, CT -- Dustin Tokarski made 27 saves and Brandon Bochenski and Ryan Craig each scored goals as the Norfolk Admirals held off the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 2-1, Saturday night at the Arena at Harbor Yard. The loss was the Sound Tigers first of the season, dropping them to 4-1-0-0. Greg Moore scored the Sound Tigers only goal.
As the final seconds of the first period wound down, the Sound Tigers Mark Wotton held the puck behind the net attempting to run out the clock. However, Paul Szczechura pressured the play, creating a turnover. Szczechura fed the puck back out to the slot where Brandon Bochenski snapped a one-timer into the net just as time expired in the period.
The Sound Tigers controlled most of the play, out-shooting the Admirals 28-16. Andrew MacDonald hit the cross-bar with a shot midway through the second period and then Tokarski made an outstanding diving save on Moore as he tried to shoot the puck into an open corner of the net with three seconds remaining.
The Admirals went up 2-0 five minutes into the third period. Juraj Simek fired a blast off the cross-bar behind Mikko Koskinen but the puck bounced out to Ryan Craig who cleaned up the rebound for his fourth goal of the season.
Justin DiBenedetto missed a scoring opportunity when he put a backhander off the post of an empty net after Tokarski fell down behind the goal. Moore finally got the Sound Tigers on the board with 1:16 left as he snapped a wrist shot past Tokarski from the top of the left face-off circle. However, it was too little, too late as the Admirals held off late pressure from Bridgeport for the victory.
The Sound Tigers are back in action Sunday afternoon when they host the Adirondack Phantoms. Face-off at Harbor Yard is set for 4:00 pm. For tickets call Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000.
