Silva's trio of doubles keys Spikes win, 8-5

STATE COLLEGE, PA - Carlos Silva tied a State College Spikes record with three doubles in one game, going 4-for-4 in his return to the lineup as the Spikes defeated the Auburn Doubledays, 8-5, on Monday night at Falcon Park.

Silva added an RBI and a run scored in just his third appearance for State College (18-20) on the year, and joined A.J. Van Slyke as the only Spikes with three doubles in a game. Van Slyke collected his trio of two-baggers on July 20, 2006 at Oneonta.

Kyle Saukko also aided the State College cause with a 3-for-4 night, and Justin Byler went 2-for-5 with two runs batted in as the Spikes snapped a seven-game road losing streak.

Tyler Cox (4-2) earned the win with three innings of relief, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three. Victor Black got the start for State College and went 2 2/3 innings, allowing a run on three hits, including two by college teammate Ryan Goins.

Auburn (15-23) reliever Brian Justice (0-3) took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk over 1 2/3 innings.

Tuesday night, the Spikes and Doubledays conclude their two-game series with a 7:05 p.m. matchup at Falcon Park. State College will start right-hander Jason Erickson (1-1) against Auburn left-hander and McClure, PA native Matt Wright (1-0).
