FISHKILL, N.Y. (July 27, 2009) - The Renegades came up big in the bottom of the eighth recording five runs to propel them to a 5-3 victory over the Staten Island Yankees Monday night at Dutchess Stadium in front of 5,002 fans. The five-run eighth was the Renegades biggest inning so far this season.

The Renegades sent right-handed Devin Fuller to the mound to make a spot start, making his first professional career start. Piggybacking Fuller's start was southpaw Glenn Gibson. Gibson, the former New York-Penn League All-Star within the Washington Nationals organization, picked up the win going three strong innings only giving up one run, while striking out three.

The Yanks broke through first posting a two spot in the top of the second with a couple of hard hit balls that found their way to the outfield grass. With two outs and a runner on third, Francisco Santana singled to left field which allowed Luke Murton to score to bring the score to 2-0, in favor of the Yanks.

The Yanks plated their final run of the game on a Deangelo Mack double. Mack's double scored Neil Medchill from second and gave the Yanks a three-run lead.

The Renegades offense came up big in the bottom of the eighth taking advantage of some timely hitting and an error by Staten Islands' pitcher, Ronny Marte. With no outs and runners on first and second Diogenes Luis laid down a sacrifice bunt down the third baseline. Marte attempted to get the lead runner out at third but threw the ball away which allowed both runners to score.

The Renegades offense continued when Tyler Bortnick stepped up to the plate with no one out and men on first and second. He ripped the ball down the left field line just passed the diving third baseman for a double, tying the score at 3-3.

The Renegades took the lead for good on a Brett Nommensen sacrifice fly, which brought the score to 4-3. The Renegades offense continued to shine as Mark Thomas provided the team with some insurance when he singled to left field plating the fifth and final run of the game.

The Renegades closer Zach Quate came into the game in the top of the ninth to close it out. Quate faced four batters and struck out two en route to his sixth save of the year as the Renegades defeated Staten Island, 5-3. The six saves ties him for second most in the NYPL.

The Renegades travel to Staten Island to close out the home-road series tomorrow morning. Staten Island will give the ball to righty Arodis Vizcaino (0-4, 2.87) and the Renegades will counter with southpaw Kyle Lobstein (1-2, 3.76). First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
